 DECISION: Bacterial or Parasitic???
« Thread Started on Aug 20, 2003, 1:26pm »

One of the first decisions that have to be made in
regards to caring for fish and any potential diseases is
whether its a "Bacterial" problem or "Parasitic".

They're not really related at all and are usually treated
in much different ways.

Bacterial problems or infections are often "seen"....
like fungus patches, fin rot, sores, etc.
Parasitic problems or infestations are usually "not seen"
....with the exception of "ick" which does show itself
as "salt-like" specks on the body. There are some others (like flukes, anchor worms and such) and a few
that we won't get into just yet.

So if you have any signs of what you may think is a
fish disease or ailment; post it here.

One important rule to remember whenever medicating
a tank: Follow directions!!! and Remove any Carbon
filtration (cartidges,etc)!!

All my freshwater tropical fish caught ick! They are all healthy, but i am keeping them (about 22 fish) including balloon mollies, guppies, sword tails, 2 small angel and platies in a 15 gallon. I know this is stressing them out because they ARE crowded. But i just recently moved, and i am keeping them in there until i set up my 55 gallon tank again and let it cycle. I put some ick medication in there and some aquarium salt. It spread so fast, is there anything else i should do??
