I changed it! Thanks for letting me know it did sound dumb lol The message board has been up and running since May 14th of this year. We now have 26 members since we've started so it can't be to bad huh?

I think it's correct either way, in fact it might be more correct as "writing". According to the Cambridge Dictionary "writing" can be making marks on paper or on a computer through a keyboard.
"Typing" is more or less the same thing, but it's usually transfering information that has already been written previously, not original thoughts being recorded for the first time.
One of my favorite quotes by author Truman Capote after reading Jack Keroac's On the Road, "That's not writing, that's typing." The book was written in a stream of consciousness style without much concern for conventional grammatical style. What he thought was what he wrote down, while Capote wrote in a highly detailed style that made the reader feel like they were in the scene described.
Sorry if that's boring, I was a journalism major in college before I joined the Air Force.
