All right I was considering getting one of these for my aquarium,I am by no means an expert on fish, but a website I trust said they are good community fish, and the good people at Pet Mart said they werent. Any one have a Bala, and could answer my question?

The balantiocheilus melanopterus, in my opinion, is a great fish to keep in a community tank. They're very peaceful, and definitely playful - mine will "school" with my sunset platy and my iridescents, and when they're bored with that, they'll play tag and/or mimic each other.
Mine are foragers, almost eating exclusively off the bottom of my tank (which is a common trait).
This is definitely a fish that you'll want more than one of, as they do best in pairs. Along with this you'll need a large-sized tank, and a good cover (they're jumpers).
