My myrio plants have turned a brown color. I've had them for a week, they were green at first, but now they are a brown color, except the tips are green. We bought a brand new compact flourescent light that the dealer said would light up the whole tank. I am wondering if it is too much light? My boyfriend left the light on for 2 days straight before he finally turned it off. They do not look skinny and thin, but are thick. There seems to be a brown algae on the other plants, but we bought some more algae eaters. We have hard water with possible abundance or iron. Any ideas?

I am by no means a plant expert but I'll try to help. You mentioned brown algae, that is usually a sign of insufficient light. I wasn't sure what a myrio was so I searched on Google. It looks like cabomba. Cabomba needs more light than just a 40 watt aquarium bulb. I've never had much luck with that plant and I've tried a few times. You might consider upping your wattage.

I have the same problem, i found a site saying that the cause maybe excessive nitrate and phosphate, it says that we may not be changing the water enough.
