I have a 29 gallon tank glass aqaurium with 2 young piranahs (sp?) 3 generic plastic plants and 2 rock style decorations, a power filter rated for my tank size, cartridge style, a power head rated for a 20 gallon tank for slow water circulation and movement and large polished rocks at the bottom, florescent light and a 150 watt heater. I keepo the tank , or try to at about 78-82 degrees F.
Here are my questions- 1) Is it possible to have live plants instead of plastic? I have been told the fish will eat them to nothingness by some and some say its fine. The folks at PetSmart dont seem to know either way. 2) The fish dont seem to want to eat anythiung but live fish. I have fed them dry floating pellets, frozen blood worms and rosie reds, they only will eat the rosie reds. Is this going to be a problem later down the road? 3)I have had a bout with algea bloom to the point i have had to break it down and redo the entire tank twice, the powerhead seems toh ave taken care of this, but now one of the fish has tail rot, or had i medicated the water and it seemed to fix it.
Any help would be apprecited, thanks

I may be able to help with part of your question. Pirahna, like some other fish, naturally eat only live food. It can be difficult if not impossible to train them to eat anything else. I have a friend whose pirahnas will eat shrimp. The kind you buy frozen at the supermarket. Make sure and thaw it before you feed it to your fish. Also a 29 gallon tank is much too small for pirahna. They will grow to over 6 inches in length. I would say a 55 would be the very smallest tank suitable for them.

I had 2 Pacu's (piranah) In oklahoma its illegal to sell them so we call them pacus.. Mine only would eat bloodworms and live feeder fish..And i agree 29 gallon is much to small. I have a 100 gallon tank and mine got to be 16 inches and the other was 6 months old and was 8 inches.. had a problem with my tank and they died or my big pacu woulda gotr even bigger he was only a year.. But yes i have a friend who would feed his pellets and they did it since he was born.. Mine only would eat the fish and a treat was the blood worms lol..

yo laura, gotta tell you that you shouldnt mistake your pacu's with piranhas. yes they look and sometimes act the same, but 16 inches is almost 3 times the size of a full sized red belly.
