You hit 2 of my oldest boy's favorites, anime and computers. I wish he liked fish as much as I do, but at least he likes football. One of my earliest memories of television is watching Speed Racer when we moved to Hawaii when I was about a year old. I wanted to be Racer X.

heather - my tanks are: -55gal - black skirt tetras, zebra danios, orange fin loaches, rainbow shark, flagfish, female bettas, cory cats, pl*co -25 gal - comet goldfish -20 gal - soon to be set up, will hold - green chromide, knight gobies, and the flagfish from my 55gal i don't really know which i'd consider my favorite type of fish... hard to choose! someguy - what animes did you used to watch? there are some that are a lot more serious, like cowboy bebop and hellsing are two of my favorite serious ones..... maybe you'd like those? - i do lots of stuff with computers. i enjoy webpage design, but i wish i knew more about graphic design. languages i know are html, php, c++, and visual basic. i've also done networking, like designing networks and assigning IPs to computers respectively (which, by the way, is a pain in the butt! have to convert all the IPs to binary and then count bits! yuck!) jonah - hold old is your oldest son? heh, don't worry about him not liking fish, my husband doesn't really like me fish, but he tolerates them because he knows they make me happy!

My oldest will turn 15 on the 1st of September. He likes fish, but he doesn't have the same kind of interest that I have in them. Is a 20g big enough for a green chromide? I thought they got pretty good sized (10"?).

um, from what i'm gathering on the internet, people call both banded chromides and green chromides by the name "green chromide". i beleive the one i'm wanting grows 3", like orange chromides do.... here's the picture that looks exactly like the one at the pet store (the silverish/greenish one) www.elmersaquarium.com/10cichlid_orangechromide.htm

The maculatus in your link is the natural coloration of the red chromide. Neat little fish, I've got two right now. What's usually referred to as the green or bucktooth chromide is Etroplus suratensis. That's the 10" chromide.

oh, ok (i was just going by the label on the tank at the pet store.... which i gues can never really be trusted anyways!) maybe you can answer one of my questions on this fish... does it's body shape stay the same, or does it get a high 'forehead' or a bump on it's head like some cichlids? thanks!

I've had mine about a year. They're 3" and the bodies are the same shape as your picture. No bump. Kind of discus shaped in the body.

Hi Abbyn and welcome, I'm relatively new myself. I just bought 10 guppies to breed for my turtles on August 2nd and have been blessed with one little fry so far. ~smile~ I'll put all that in another post. Can't remember if I put all my critters in my signature or not, so just in case I didn't, I'm owned by 13 cats, 3 turtles (Red Ear Slider's) and 14 guppies (3 with the turtles who are apparently friends now , 10 in the breeder tank and a new fry by him/herself) Good luck with all your fishies. They sound wonderful.
