Hello, this looks like a good place to actually talk to people, rather than just reading articles At any rate, I'm relatively new to fish-keeping. I've had big dogs since I was very little, and only got into fish last year as something to do on the side, and as something to make my room look a bit nicer I've read many books, and have successfull operated my 55-gallon tank for nine months now. No disease, and only one fatality (the fish died within 24 hours of me purchasing it). My question is simple - we recently moved into a new house, and in the backyard is a large goldfish pond. There must be at least 50 goldfish in it - some your standard orange, some orange and white. My tank inside is barely half-full, if you follow the one inch of fish per gallon guideline, and I was wondering if it would be possible to add one of the smaller goldfish to my tank for variety. None of the fish in my tank are hostile - I have some blue Gourami's, some bala sharks, an irridescent, and a plecostomus. Room therefore isn't really a problem I don't believe. So - since it comes from an outdoor pond, would I have to quarantine it for awhile in a seperate tank/large bucket of water? And as to feeding, would it do well on the tropical flakes and blood worms I feed my tropical fish, or would I also have to put goldfish food in the tank? Or is this just a rotten idea, and I'm an ignorant newbie? heh. Thanks for any advice.

I am kinda new at this too, but from my understanding gold fish are very hard on water. I think that they would survive just fine however, the tank itself might be more maintnance.
I hope this helps, Kristine
