I don't know what to do The water in my freshwater tank was clear for the longest time, and all of a sudden, it has become incredibly cloudy. The water being spewed from the filter appears clear, but the water behind the filter cartridge has an oily residue on the top. I have cleaned the algae from the tank at least once a week (iIve only had my tank for two weeks now). What should I do, I don't want my fish to die!

ok, this is verrrrrry important. take a sample and have the ammonia checked. your fishtank could have ammonia and that could lead to death of all your fish, after you have done that, even if they say there is no ammonia clean the tankput them in a temorary tank and clean the other verry well. replace the filter cartrage asap.
hope it helps!

We just got our tank. Added the fish from the store today. I didn't know I shouldn't add the water from the fish store until I read some other posts. Anyway, the water was crystal clear until we came home this evening and it is cloudy. We just put the filter in, it can't need a change already. What else could be the problem? Please help.
