Just started a 55 gallon aquarium about one month ago. I have REALLY high ammonia levels. I only have 10 small fish (approx. 2 inches). I am currently using Ammo-Lock and performing water changes. I am using water conditioner when adding new water. I am also using Cycle Bacteria Culture. My local aquarium store owner told me I have been trying to use too small of a filter so I bought a Emeperor 400. There appears to be a whitish oil-type film on the surface of the water - kind of resembling gasoline in a mud puddle. Is this the ammonia or could it be the Ammo-Lock I am using? Is it possible there is something in the tank that could be "contaminating" the water? All that is in there is gravel and a few plastic decorative plants. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
